ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I am an Independent Calligrapher working from an art studio within my home in Royal Oak, Michigan. Although I often create one-of-a-kind artwork for clients, most of my work centers on weddings and celebrations. I feel privileged to have long-standing relationships with some of the best event planners throughout the state of Michigan, and have been honored to work closely with brides, mothers of brides, grandmothers, and grooms! By providing my clients with beautiful calligraphy created by my own hand, I endeavor to help them set the stage for a memorable event! Save-the-Dates and Invitation envelopes often provide guests with their first impression of the celebration to follow. Hand Lettered envelopes can create excitement as well as lasting impressions in this “digital age”. When you choose hand lettered stationery components such as envelopes, escort cards, place cards, table numbers, programs, and favor tags, your guests will know that details matter to you.

I put my heart and my hand into every piece I work on. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big job or a small one, for a new friend or an old one, for a family member, for my church, for a graduate or a soldier – my goal is the same: to create personalized original artwork with attention to detail that makes the recipient feel honored and special.

ABOUT THE PRINCIPAL CALLIGRAPHER

I’ve had a life-long love affair with all of the elements of calligraphy –writing instruments, liquids, quills, papers, colors, art and textures, but the stars truly aligned for me the first time I dipped a steel nib into an inkwell about 28 years ago!!! Calligraphy (“the art of beautiful writing”) has been my passion ever since. I set out to become formally trained in classic and traditional alphabets such as Uncial, Gothic, Carolingian, Foundational, Italic, Neuland, Copperplate and Spencerian. I’ve been blessed with great teachers, wonderful mentors and now, students, too!

I have served on the Board of Directors of the Michigan Association of Calligraphers for over 15 consecutive years and am currently serving my fourth term as President. I completed Master Penmen Michael Sull’s year long Master Class in Engrossing in 2008 and proudly display my diploma in my studio as well as this web site! Whenever possible, I enjoy taking workshops and classes to learn new and contemporary calligraphic techniques, or to refresh my skills in the classic alphabets.
